Kerry Anderson's
Sideways

Sideways is a song that I have loved so much I
recorded it twice.  First, in Boulder, CO at Coupe
Studios in 2002 with a good friend of mine and
engineer Ryan Dart.  When a couple years ago I
brought it to
Charles Roane from Headquarters Studio
in New York City in 2006 there was much more we
wanted to do with it.  I remember recording this song in
DJ Premiers studio in darkness. Charles tuned off all
of the lights in the mix room as well as the vocal booth.
There were only a few candles burning. I also remember
drinking a few sips of French wine between takes.

This song was written before I moved back to
Colorado from NJ in 2001.

It is a story about a love triangle in which this
man falls for a younger woman who is merely pretending
to be someone she is not.  She is one of those people
with "a chameleon" type personality.  She falls for her
best friends love interest and he falls for her. He still
has feelings for the best friend. This song is written
from the perspective of the best friend talking to the
man. This song is full of pain, betrayal and feeling
trapped in chains, holding back her own feelings for the
sake of everyone else.  The words Sideways is the view
in which the woman sees this man.  Her head tilted to
the side with confusion and sadness.

The history of Sideways
You are sideways to me,
how you feel and how you see.
With truth and individual light,
a cadence to your heart beat tailored
sight.

You fathom a worry and you think
about the distinct difference
between gray and pink.
Pain for courage, courage for pains,
trapped in the madness, trapped in
chains.
Cradle a rose paralyzed by youth
pricked by the rose, reality becomes
truth.
Braided in three, can not really be
A knife to my back and I don't agree

You are Sideways to me

Intensities trapped you in the hall.
A tangled mess locked in a ball.
Emotions mixed with a talented lie,
Its enough to cause a flood
and make you cry

You fathom a worry and you think
about the distinct difference
between gray and pink.
Pain for courage, courage for pains,
trapped in the madness, trapped in
chains.
Cradle a rose paralyzed by youth
pricked by the rose, reality becomes
truth.
Braided in three, can not really be
A knife to my back and I don't agree

You are Sideways to me

You are still Sideways to me,
a drop of color
and maybe you will set yourself free.
War bleeding through to your mind
a constant distress
with peace hard to find.

You fathom a worry and you think
about the distinct difference
between gray and pink.
Pain for courage, courage for pains
trapped in the madness, trapped in
chains.
Cradle a rose paralyzed by youth
pricked by the rose, reality becomes
truth
Braided in three, can not really be
A knife to my back and I don't agree

You are Sideways to me
